Kick-off for WPS Half Marathon & 2 Person Relay
Winnipeg Police Service 6th Annual Cops for Cancer Half Marathon
On May 2, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. the Winnipeg Police Service will be hosting its 6th Annual Half Marathon in support of the Cops for Cancer program. The run is being hosted by the Winnipeg Police Service, the Winnipeg Iron-Cops, and The Running Room.
The event starts and finishes inside the Assiniboine Park near the foot bridge. The course will remain the same as last years which can also be accessed by going to
www.wpshalfmarathon.ca.
The course will remain open for four hours to allow runners, wheelchair athletes and walkers to participate. Participants are welcome to register in person at any Running Room location, at the Cancer Society Office at 193 Sherbrook Street, on-line on the Running Room website or through the event website at
www.wpshalfmarathon.ca.
Early registration is recommended as a maximum of 1550 runners and 325 Two Person relay teams are being accepted. An early bird registration fee of $65.00 is being offered for single runners and $130.00 for the Two Person relay teams until January 31st, 2010.
All participants will receive a complimentary souvenir T-Shirt with their registration, refreshments throughout the course, a pancake breakfast, entertainment after the race, and a surprise finisher’s gift!
The top three male and female finishers will be announced and presented with a cash purse prize as follows:
1. First place male and female - $1,000.00 each
2. Second place male and female - $500.00 each
3. Third place male and female - $250.00 each
All net proceeds raised will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society and remains in this Province.

During the early evening hours of Thursday December 17th 2009, a 24 year old male was allegedly operating a speeding vehicle eastbound on Hamilton Avenue, near Knox Street.
The alleged offence was captured by a photo radar unit which was manned by a photo radar operator.
The suspect attended to the photo radar unit and is alleged to have uttered threats to kill the Peace Officer, while aggressively attempting to gain entry into the photo radar unit.
During the incident the suspect attempted to tamper with the radar equipment in addition to pounding his fists on the windows and kicking at the doors of the vehicle.
The peace officer was not injured in the incident.
A subsequent investigation by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit has resulted in the arrest of a 24 year old male. He is facing charges of Uttering Threats to Kill and Intimidation of a Justice Official.
The suspect has been released on a Promise to Appear.
FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C10-2362
On January 4th, 2010 at approximately 10:50 a.m., Uniform members were dispatched to the area of Waverley Street and Victor Lewis Drive regarding a serious motor vehicle collision.
The investigation has revealed that a vehicle being operated by an 83 year old male, including a 73 year old female passenger was travelling northbound on Waverley Street approaching Victor Lewis Drive. The driver of the vehicle began to negotiate a left hand turn onto Victor Lewis Drive at the same time a tractor trailer was travelling southbound on Waverley Street.
The vehicle proceeded to turn onto Victor Lewis Drive directly into the path of the tractor trailer at which time the vehicle was broadsided on the passenger side.
As a result of the collision, a 73 year old female succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
The 83 year old driver of the vehicle was conveyed to hospital in critical condition where he remains at this time.
The driver of the tractor trailer, a 49 year old male was not injured during the incident.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.

MISSING PERSON – Linnea DANIELS – R10-105
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 17 year old missing female, Linnea DANIELS. DANIELS was last seen on December 31st, 2009 in the north end area of Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Police Service considers DANIELS to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.
DANIELS is described as: Aboriginal, 5’3” tall, weighing approximately 100 pounds and has long straight dark hair, with brown eyes.
DANIELS is known to frequent the Downtown area of the city.
Anyone with information regarding DANIELS’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.
GROW OPERATION ARREST C10-2618
On January 4th, 2010 at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the District 3 Community Support Unit, with the assistance of the Green Team and Tactical Support Team executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue.
As a result of the search, the following items were located and seized:
Approximately 526 plants - estimated street value of $589,120.00
Approximately 2298 grams (6 ½ pounds) marihuana – estimated street value of $22,980.00
Approximately $15,000.00 worth of grow operation equipment
$495.00 cash
At the time the warrant was being executed, a 37 year old male was located within the residence.
He is facing the following charges: Produce Controlled Substance namely; Marihuana, Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possess Proceeds of Crime Under $5000.00.
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
