The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit, which consists of both RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service Members, is requesting assistance from the public in locating 35 year-old Curtis MASON. Police are seeking to locate MASON as he has failed to comply with his Probation Order. MASON frequents the downtown area and the Portage Place Mall.

MASON is described as Aboriginal, 6' tall, weighs approximately 270 pounds and has a heavy build. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

MASON’s criminal record includes Sexual Assault and Forcible Confinement. MASON is considered a High Risk to re-offend both sexually and violently. He has a long history of alcohol and substance abuse and targets women with children. All children under the age of 14 are at risk.

MISSING PERSON – SHANE OLSON-TRYON R09-98291

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 14 year old missing female, Shane OLSON-TRYON. OLSON-TRYON was last seen on December 26, 2009.

OLSON-TRYON is considered a high risk missing person as she is at risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.
OLSON-TRYON is described as a Caucasian female, 5’3” tall and weighs approximately 125 pounds. She has medium-length blonde/black hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information regarding OLSON-TRYON’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

December 31, 2009

DRUG AND WEAPON ARRESTS C09-289890
On December 26, 2009, East District Uniform members were assisting the RCMP with a break and enter investigation that occurred in rural Manitoba between November 23 and 24, 2009.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 500 block of Archibald Street with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team an Uniform members from other Divisions. Ammunition was located within the residence resulting in the arrest of a 38 year old male. He is facing charges of Break and Enter and Possess Ammunition while Prohibited and was released on a Promise to Appear.
Further investigation resulted in a search warrant being executed at a residence in the 100 block of Devonshire Drive on December 27th by Uniform members with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team.
The following was seized as a result of the investigation:
- jewellery
- Canadian and U.S. currency
- electronic items
- gift cards
- a quantity of Marihuana
- a quantity of Crystal Methamphetamine
- a quantity of Ecstasy tablets
- a quantity of Psilocybin
- a quantity of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD)
- drug trafficking paraphernalia
- machetes
- a shot gun
- ammunition
- a sword
- a quantity of counterfeit money
Further investigation revealed that the cash, a quantity of property and the firearm were stolen during the previously mentioned break-in that occurred in rural Manitoba.
Cris Allan Curtis SCHULTZ, 27 years of Winnipeg was arrested at the time in connection with the investigation. He was charged with the following:
- Possessing a Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking X 5
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose X 5
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Break and Enter
- Break and Enter and Steal a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm X 2
- Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Drive Disqualified
- Fail to Comply with the Conditions of a Recognizance X 2
Anthony Vic GERBASI, 29 years, of Winnipeg was arrested on December 28th and detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. He was charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon X 2
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Possession of a Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking X 5
- Possessing Counterfeit Money
A 28 year old male and a 20 year old female were also arrested on December 28th in connection with the investigation. Both are facing drug possession charges and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. They were released on a Promise to Appear.
The investigation is continuing.
DRUG ARREST R09-98928
On December 30, 2009 at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Organized Crime Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant at a residence in the 500 block of Leila Avenue.
A variety of drugs including 37 ounces of Crystal Methamphetamine, Psilocybin, Hashish, Hydromorphone tablets and more than 3,300 Ecstasy tablets was seized. The total estimated street value of the drugs is in excess of $40,000.00. Almost $7,000.00 in Canadian currency and drug trafficking paraphernalia was also seized.
A 33 year old male and a 33 year old female were arrested in connection with the investigation. Both are facing charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking X 7 and Possess of Proceeds of Crime and were released on a Promise to Appear.
DECEASED FEMALE LOCATED C09-292183
Shortly after noon on December 30, 2009, emergency services were called to a bus shelter in the area of Maryland Street and Ellice Avenue regarding a deceased female that had been located.
Investigators have determined that a male and a female were observed in the bus shelter several hours prior by a Winnipeg Transit driver. They were observed to still be in the shelter when the driver passed by sometime later and emergency services were notified.
The cause of death is yet to be determined pending an autopsy but the investigation has revealed that the cold weather may have contributed to the 31 year old victim’s demise. Her 43 year old male acquaintance was conveyed to hospital in stable condition. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
The investigation is continuing.
MISSING PERSON R09-98108
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating an 18 year old missing male, Chad MONIAS. MONIAS was last seen on December 16, 2009 in the North End of Winnipeg.
MONIAS is described as Aboriginal, 6’2” tall and weighs approximately 177 pounds. He has long black hair in a ponytail and brown eyes.
MONIAS requires medication and it is believed he may not have access to it. He is known to frequent the North End of the city.

Festive Season Checkstop Program

The Winnipeg Police Service well into its annual holiday season impaired driving enforcement campaign.

To date, 43 people have been arrested for Impaired Driving Related offences; 120 Provincial Offence Notices have been issued, and 9 drivers have had their driver’s license suspended for 24 hours under Provincial Legislation. As charges are formally laid, the names of those arrested will be released.

Drug Arrests

On December 22nd, 2009 at approximately 5:40 p.m., members of the Organized Crime Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and the Green Team executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence in the 2200 block of Gallagher Avenue.

At the time of the warrant, two males were located within the residence.

As a result of the search, members located the following items:

  • 918 Marihuana plants – estimated street value of $1,175,040.00.
  • 12 gauge shotgun.

A 23 year old male and a 16 year old male have been arrested and are facing numerous drug and weapon related offences.

The 23 year old male has been detained in custody. The 16 year old male was released on a Promise to Appear.

Attempt Murder Arrests

On December 19th, 2009 at approximately 11:57 p.m., uniform members were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of College Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.

The investigation revealed that at approximately 11:30 p.m., a 14 year old female victim was present at a house party with several other people.

At one point during the gathering, a 13 year old female confronted the victim and physically assaulted her causing her to fall to the ground. Three additional females, 13, 14 and 16 years of age proceeded to assault the victim about the body.

The assault continued at which point the victim was struck with an object to the upper and lower body. One of the suspects subsequently armed herself with a knife at which time the victim was stabbed repeatedly to the upper and lower body, rendering the victim unconscious.

The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival.

The victim was conveyed to hospital and treated for multiple injuries.

Due to the efforts of members of the District 3 Crime Unit, 4 female youths were located and arrested on December 22nd, 2009.

They are facing the following charges:

  • 13 and 14 year old – Attempt Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.
  • 13 and 16 year old – Assault with a Weapon, Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.

The 13 and 14 year old have been detained in custody. The 13 and 16 year old have been released on a Promise to Appear.

Residential Robbery Arrests

On December 10th, 2009 between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., 4 suspects attended to a residence in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue and forced entry into the home.

Once inside, the suspects proceeded to ransacked the home. A quantity of prescription medication was removed including a piece of jewelry which was taken from the victim who was home at the time. The victim was physically assaulted to the upper body at the time of the incident.

On December 16th, 2009, one of the suspects returned to the residence and proceeded to smash out a window before fleeing the area.

On the same date at approximately 4:00 p.m., one of the suspects attended to a gas bar located in the 100 block of Salter Avenue, at which time a vehicle was stolen. While in possession of the vehicle, the suspect became involved in a hit and run motor vehicle collision in the Tuxedo area of the city.

On December 20th, 2009 at approximately 3:30 a.m., 3 suspects attended to a residence in the 100 block of Machray Avenue and forced entry into the home. Three people within the residence were confronted, at which time one of the suspects armed himself with a machete. The investigation later revealed that the suspect was also in possession of the replica firearm at the time of the incident. One of the victims was physically assaulted to the upper and lower body. The three suspects removed electronics from the home and fled the area in the previously mentioned stolen vehicle.

On December 20th, 2009 at approximately 6:20 a.m., 3 suspects re-attended to a residence in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue.

The suspects forced entry into the home, one of which was armed with a machete and the other with a replica firearm. Three residents were subsequently confronted at which time the home was ransacked.

The suspects removed electronics and fled in the stolen vehicle.

Due to the efforts of members from the Major Crimes Unit with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit, 5 males have been arrested. A 12 year old, two 14 year olds, a 17 year old and an 18 year old are facing numerous offences in connection to the crime spree.

They have been detained in custody.

Robbery Arrests

On December 22nd, 2009 at approximately 1:20 a.m., uniform members were dispatched to a business in the area of Whytewold Road and Portage Avenue regarding a firearm related incident.

The investigation revealed that two male suspects attended to a fast food restaurant in a stolen vehicle. The suspects encountered at group of people at which time words were exchanged. The suspects returned to the vehicle at which time they armed themselves with a replica firearm and knife.

One of the suspects subsequently pointed the firearm at the group from outside the restaurant.

The suspects re-entered the business and assaulted one of the patrons (17 years of age). Members of the Winnipeg Police Service were summoned.

The suspects fled the area in the stolen vehicle.

A short time later, the suspects confronted a 17 year old male in the area of Cavalier Drive and Portage Avenue. One of the suspects, in possession of a firearm robbed the victim of his property.

Three other males were picked up by the suspects while still in possession of the stolen vehicle.

Due to the efforts of numerous police resources, the stolen vehicle and occupants was located eastbound on Portage Avenue.

All five occupants were taken into custody without incident.

A 17 year old and two 18 year old males are facing numerous Robbery, Theft and Weapon related offences.

They have been detained in custody.

Firearm Incident

On December 22nd, 2009 at approximately 12:00 noon, uniform members attended to a residence in the 100 block of Meade Street regarding a family dispute.

The investigation revealed that a 48 year old male attended to his 18 year old step-son’s residence and forced entry into the home.

The suspect subsequently armed himself with two loaded firearms at which time members of the Winnipeg Police Service arrived on scene.

The suspect confronted the officers as they entered the residence and pointed a loaded firearm in their direction.

Due to the efforts of the officers directly involved, including members of the Tactical Support Team, the suspect was taken into custody a short time later.

He is facing numerous firearm related offences. He has been detained in custody.

Community Notification

The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU) is a joint forces unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. MIHRSOU today provides information regarding Gregory William TOTTLE, 64 years of age, a convicted sex offender who is considered a HIGH RISK to become involved in further sexual offences.

TOTTLE was released from Stony Mountain Institution on December 24, 2009, after serving a 2 year 1 month sentence for Sexual Interference. He is expected to take up residence in Winnipeg.

TOTTLE has a previous conviction for Sexual Assault. Although TOTTLE participated in some sex offender treatment programs while in prison, he is still considered a HIGH RISK to re-offend. Females under 18 years of age are at risk.

Community Notification

This information is provided to enable members of the public to take suitable measures to protect themselves. Any form of vigilante activity or other unreasonable conduct directed at Mr. TOTTLE will not be tolerated.

Background information:

Gregory William TOTTLE is a 64 year old male with a criminal record for sexual offences against children.

In 1985, TOTTLE was convicted of a Sexual Assault against a 10 year old girl. More recently, he committed a series of sexual acts against a young child who was related to him. The victim was two years old when the offence commenced and four years old when it ended. On November 28, 2007, TOTTLE was sentenced to 25 months for Sexual Interference in relation to those acts. He had served 11 months in custody prior to being sentenced.

On December 24, 2009, he will be released from prison and is expected to take up residence in Winnipeg.

TOTTLE has participated in some sex offender treatment programs while in custody. However, he is still considered a HIGH RISK to re-offend. Females under the age of 18 years are at risk of sexual violence.

Suspicious Person

On December 19th, 2009 at approximately 2:00 p.m., a 10 year old female was walking in the area of Jessie Avenue and Rockwood Street when she observed a suspicious vehicle and occupant driving in her direction.

As a result, the female was concerned and began walking back towards a nearby community centre.

The suspect was observed to park his vehicle in the area. He then confronted the female victim and asked her if she wanted a ride. The victim declined and fled the area.

Family members were advised and police were subsequently notified.

The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, 67-87 years of age, white or grey short hair, no facial hair and wrinkles.

The suspect vehicle is described as: Large, white, newer, 4 door vehicle.

The investigation is continuing by members of the District 6 Crime Unit.

Aggravated Assault Arrest

On December 27th, 2009 at approximately 2:50 a.m., uniform members were dispatched to the first 100 block of Roslyn Road regarding an injured male, previously a victim of an assault.

The investigation has revealed that two males, 26 and 28 years of age were socializing at a residence, at which time they became involved in a verbal dispute. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation.

It is alleged that the 28 year old male assaulted the 26 year old male victim to the upper body with a shovel. As a result, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were summoned and the 28 year old male was taken into custody.

The victim was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition, he has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.

A 28 year old male is facing a charge of Aggravated Assault.

He has been detained in custody.

December 26, 2009

Vehicle Robbery

On December 25th, 2009 at approximately 10:25 p.m., uniform members were dispatched to the area of the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue regarding a vehicle robbery which had just taken place.

The investigation revealed that at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 22 year old male victim attended to his vehicle and started it, allowing it to warm up prior to leaving the area. The victim subsequently exited his vehicle and began scraping his windows.

It was at this time the victim was confronted by a male and female suspect. The male suspect produced a firearm and pointed it in the direction of the victim. Keys to the vehicle were demanded, at which time both suspects entered vehicle and fled the area.

The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect 1 – Male, Aboriginal in appearance, mid 20’s, 5’7”-5’9” in height, thin build, black hair, pointy nose, wearing: dark clothing.

Suspect 2 – Female, Aboriginal in appearance, 5’4”-5’6” in height, thin build, black hair in a ponytail, wearing: a white hoody sweatshirt, dark jacket and jeans.

The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.

Strong-arm Robbery

On December 23rd, 2009 at approximately 8:00 p.m., a 38 year old male was walking in the area of the Pritchard Avenue and Chudley Street when he was confronted by several male suspects.

Two of the suspects, one of which is believed to have been in possession of a knife at the time, began physically assaulting the victim to the upper and lower body.

Three additional male suspects also began assaulting the victim. As a result of the incident, the victim was robbed of several personal items including and undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim was able to leave the area and make his way home.

As a result of the incident, the victim sustained several upper and lower body injuries.

The victim was conveyed to hospital in stable condition.

The suspects are described as: Males, tall, medium to large builds, wearing black and white face masks, dark hoodies and dark pants.

The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.

December 30, 2009

MALE SHOT C09-292015
Shortly after 4:30 a.m. on December 30, 2009, emergency services were called to a residence in the 600 block of Balmoral Street regarding a male that had been shot.
The adult male victim was conveyed to hospital in critical condition where he is currently being treated for serious gunshot wounds to his upper body.
The investigation is continuing by the Major Crimes Unit and no additional information is available at this time.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 16 year old missing female, Tamara MURDOCK. MURDOCK was last seen on December 14, 2009 in the North End of Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Police Service considers MURDOCK to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.

MURDOCK is described as an Aboriginal female, 5’8”tall and weighs approximately 126 pounds with a medium build. She has shoulder length dark hair and brown eyes.
MURDOCK is believed to be in the company of a 26 year old male acquaintance. The male is described as Aboriginal, 5’10” tall and weighs 146 pounds with a thin build. It is believed that MURDOCK and the male may be in the area of VOGAR, Manitoba.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 16 year old missing female, Sherry CROW. CROW was last seen on December 28, 2009 in the Transcona area of the city.
CROW is considered a high risk missing person as she is at risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.
CROW is described as an Aboriginal female, 5’2” tall and weighs approximately 139 pounds. She has short spiked brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing black jeans, a black hooded parka with brown pinstripes and fur on hood, black runners, and a white NY baseball hat.

MISSING PERSON – SHANE OLSON-TRYON R09-98291
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 14 year old missing female, Shane OLSON-TRYON. OLSON-TRYON was last seen on December 26, 2009.
OLSON-TRYON is considered a high risk missing person as she is at risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.
OLSON-TRYON is described as a Caucasian female, 5’3” tall and weighs approximately 125 pounds. She has medium-length blonde and black hair and blue eyes.

STRONG ARM ROBBERY C09-290051
On December 27th, 2009 at approximately 4:55 a.m., a 29 year old male was parked in his vehicle in the area of the 1200 block of Sherburn Street when he was approached by an unknown male.
The suspect male requested a cigarette and money. The 29 year old male advised that he did not smoke but offered him a small amount of change. It was at this time the suspect attempted to assault the victim to the upper body. The victim proceeded to open his car door, pushing the suspect backward.
The victim fled the area, leaving his vehicle behind. The suspect male, now in possession of a knife, including a second male suspect, began chasing the victim.
It is believed that the second male suspect was also in possession of a weapon at the time of the incident.
A third suspect, believed to be female, remained at the scene and was observed to enter the victim’s vehicle.
The suspects continued to pursue the victim in their own vehicles. The victim eventually gained refuge at a business in the area of 1400 block of Notre Dame Avenue, at which time police were summoned.
The suspects fled the area.
The investigation revealed that the victim was not injured during the incident. A small amount of money including a cellular phone was removed from the victim’s vehicle.
The suspects are described as follows:
Suspect 1 – Male, Asian in appearance, 30 years of age, 5’8” in height, moustache, pock marked face, pierced nostril, silver earrings in both ears, missing front teeth, wearing: a blue t-shirt, red jacket and black baseball cap (In possession of knife).
Suspect 2 – Male, Asian in appearance, chubby build, shorter than suspect 1, wearing: a red baseball cap.
Suspect 3 – Female, Asian in appearance, 5’8” in height, tall/thin build, long face, long dark hair down her back, wearing: a dark brown jacket.
Suspect Vehicle 1 – Mid 1990’s, smaller, 4 door, two tone in colour.
Suspect Vehicle 2 – Late 1990’s, 2 door, maroon in colour.
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 2 Crime Unit.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST C09-290002
On December 27th, 2009 at approximately 2:50 a.m., uniform members were dispatched to the first 100 block of Roslyn Road regarding an injured male, previously a victim of an assault.
The investigation has revealed that two males, 26 and 28 years of age were socializing at a residence, at which time they became involved in a verbal dispute. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation.
It is alleged that the 28 year old male assaulted the 26 year old male victim to the upper body with a shovel. As a result, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were summoned and the 28 year old male was taken into custody.
The victim was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition, he has since been upgraded to stable condition.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
A 28 year old male is facing a charge of Aggravated Assault.
He has been detained in custody.

VEHICLE ROBBERY C09-289289
On December 25th, 2009 at approximately 10:25 p.m., uniform members were dispatched to the area of the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue regarding a vehicle robbery which had just taken place.
The investigation revealed that at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 22 year old male victim attended to his vehicle and started it, allowing it to warm up prior to leaving the area. The victim subsequently exited his vehicle and began scraping his windows.
It was at this time the victim was confronted by a male and female suspect. The male suspect produced a firearm and pointed it in the direction of the victim. Keys to the vehicle were demanded, at which time both suspects entered vehicle and fled the area.
The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.
The suspects are described as follows:
Suspect 1 – Male, Aboriginal in appearance, mid 20’s, 5’7”-5’9” in height, thin build, black hair, pointy nose, wearing: dark clothing.
Suspect 2 – Female, Aboriginal in appearance, 5’4”-5’6” in height, thin build, black hair in a ponytail, wearing: a white hoody sweatshirt, dark jacket and jeans.
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.

STRONG ARM ROBBERY C09-288304
On December 23rd, 2009 at approximately 8:00 p.m., a 38 year old male was walking in the area of the Pritchard Avenue and Chudley Street when he was confronted by several male suspects.
Two of the suspects, one of which is believed to have been in possession of a knife at the time, began physically assaulting the victim to the upper and lower body.
Three additional male suspects also began assaulting the victim. As a result of the incident, the victim was robbed of several personal items including and undisclosed amount of cash.
The victim was able to leave the area and make his way home.
As a result of the incident, the victim sustained several upper and lower body injuries.
The victim was conveyed to hospital in stable condition.
The suspects are described as: Males, tall, medium to large builds, wearing black and white face masks, dark hoodies and dark pants.
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.
